Life Members
This page is dedicated to the Thunderbirds who have been
recognized for their contribution to the club. A member is
chosen to become a life member by the life members themselves.
This group ensures that any new candidate meets the rigorous
standard of selfless contribution to the club before their
name is even considered. There aren't many Life Members in
the Thunderbirds club, but you can be sure that their impact
has shaped the club for decades.
How A Life Member is Chosen
This is covered in the Thunderbirds bylaws,
Section IV, paragraph E. The selection process begins with
the nomination of a candidate in the October club meeting.
There is a limitation of two life member elections per year,
and these are selected from the candidates nominated in the
October meeting. It takes five lifetime members to vote on
the nominated candidates, or if there are fewer than five
current life members, then the club membership votes on the
nominations.
Those are the mechanics of the process, but in order to select
the nominees the life members look at many factors. Yes, it
is a subjective process but with objective ideals of a member's
philanthropy to the goals and pursuits of the club.
It is special honor to hold the title of Life Member in one
of the most historic and successful clubs in the nation.
