The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) is the governing body for all model aircraft activity in the United States. The AMA keeps the rules for all formal competition. They sponsor competitions at the local level and, at their facility at Muncie Indiana, they hold national competitions. Also at Muncie the AMA maintains a model aircraft museum. Membership in the AMA includes subscription to an outstanding monthly magazine and liability insurance. AMA membership is required to fly at Thunderbird Field.
